Summary:The work presents a measuring instrument designed for determination of the reverse water permeability of geotextiles and soils. This instrument may also be used for investigations of silting-up of geotextile filters by flushing with water-soil suspension. Determination of diameters of soil particles which can flow through tested material can indicate its substitute pore diameter. The instrument is equipped with an automatic system enabling continuous measurements of hydraulic gradients, flow rates and water temperatures. A programmable digital recorder displays actual measurements and is equipped with an internal memory of 176 kB and designed for data acquisition. The digital recorder can operate with a computer of PC IBM type. Results may be displayed in graphic or digital form. In order to present possibilities of this instrument, the results related to determination of permeability of nonwoven geotextile, which has been used during nine years as a filter-protection layer below concret blanking plates applied as lining of the channel bed, are given. It was found that the water permeability coefficient depends on time
