Red and white currants yield and formation elements as influenced by supplemental irrigation
During 1991-1993, the effects of drip irrigation on the yield of red currant (the varieties Jonkheer van Tet's, BO-123 and BO-144) and white currant (the varieties Primus, Blanka and BO-71) and on yield forming elements were evaluated at Nitra (Slovakia). Results indicate that irrigation signif...

Summary: | During 1991-1993, the effects of drip irrigation on the yield of red currant (the varieties Jonkheer van Tet's, BO-123 and BO-144) and white currant (the varieties Primus, Blanka and BO-71) and on yield forming elements were evaluated at Nitra (Slovakia). Results indicate that irrigation significantly influences yields. The yield of the red and white currants increased by 2.3 t per ha (13 %) and 3.5 t per ha (20.6 %) respectively. Irrigation was most effective in the new variety BO-144 (+ 2.7 t per ha, i. e. 37.4 %) and in the Blanka variety (+ 4.5 t per ha, i. e. 23.4 %). Berry weight showed a significant increase by 0.08 g per berry and 0.06 g per berry in the new varieties BO-123 and BO-144 respectively and by 0.06 g per berry both in the Primus and the Blanka. The number of berries per cluster significantly increased by 1.26 pcs and 1.4 pcs in the Primus and the BO-71 respectively, and decreased by 1.4 pcs in the new variety BO-123. No significant effect of irrigation was detected in the number of clusters per bush |
