Summary:Green roofs may become important for environmental improvement. Additional building of such constructions is limited by statics analysis of roofs. Extensive green roofs were built on an artificial soil profile thickness of less than 0.10 m. The artificial soil profile consists of the vegetation layer and filtration layer (fabric and drainage layer). The specific load of roof construction is assumed to be about 1.6 kn m** (-2). In the article it is proposed to connect both the drainage and the filtration layers by a special fabric. Knowing the basic hydro-physical properties of the materials, the maximal roof runoff can be determined by graphical method. Either the multiple layer of drainage-filtration fabric or a combination of different materials may be designed. The building technology can also be simplified: the classical drainage layer can be replaced by the vegetation layer, because of the increased retention of soil water. The artificial soil profile water regime will be improved, and better use of precipitation will enable costs for system irrigation needed for extensive green roofs to be cut
