Summary:Optimal conditions for black currant growing exist in southern Slovakia. In Nitra, higher yields and quality parameters were achieved compared with the more northern locality of Bojnice. All monitored varieties, Slovak newly-bred variety from VUOOD Bojnice, are very productive (2.86 kg per plant, i.e. 11.67 t per hectare) and achieve high parameters of yield quality. In 1991-1993, yields were significantly influenced by irrigation and weather. The efficiency of irrigation was 23.10 percent, positively influencing quality. The Otelo variety (Ribes nigrum, north x west-European botanical geographical group) showed the highest yield, and therefore placed second to third place for yield quality and first for hydrostability. Eva variety (Ribes nigrum, west-European botanical geographical group) achieved the third highest yield and placed first for yield quality and second for hydrostability. Favorit variety (Ribes nigrum x Ribes dikuscha) achieved the second highest yield and placed second to third for yield quality and third for hydrostability
