Changes in production, composition of milk and milk fat in dairy cows fed rape cakes

Increasing fat in feed for dairy cows increases milk production (Brown et al., 1962, Hansjorg et al., 1992). In a group-periodical trial with 32 dairy cows divided into two groups of 16 the effect of rape cake feeding on production and milk composition was examined. An increase in performance by 0.4...

Summary:Increasing fat in feed for dairy cows increases milk production (Brown et al., 1962, Hansjorg et al., 1992). In a group-periodical trial with 32 dairy cows divided into two groups of 16 the effect of rape cake feeding on production and milk composition was examined. An increase in performance by 0.433 l per day or 0.448 l per day FCM was observed in trial animal when they were fed 0.83 kg rape cakes in ration compared with their assumed milk production during lactation. Performance increase was 0.535 l per day (3 % increase in milk production converted to 4 % FCM) in the trial group after correlation with pre-trial and post-trial periods. Results were not significant. The indices of milk composition and fatty acid percent ratio in milk fat did not significantly differ during the experiment.
