Summary:Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network is a new technology that depends on cell transfer. The cell has a small fixed size (53 bytes), which adds more features to the ATM, such as facilitating the implementation of switch hardware. The ATM network uses virtual paths (VPs), which contain a virtual circuit (connection between network architecture) for cell transporting. these lead to a simplified network architecture: The major facilities and most important function of the ATM network is the quality of services (QoS) (real time transfering) and congestion control. This paper is concerned with the basic principles of ATM network theoretically. A network simulation modeling is designed and implemented using visual basic programming languages. For determining the shortest path between two nodes (source node to destination node), dijkstra routing algorithm is implemented. Good results were obtained after running the program
