Medical and biological safety assessment of genetically modified soybean event MON 89788. Report 2. Genotoxicological, immunological and allergological examinations

The potential genotoxicity of genetically modified soybean (GMS) was studied on male mice of C57BI/6 line characterized by high spontaneous mutagenesis. GMS and it conventional analog (in the form of a meal) was included in the diet based on 3.0-3.2 g/day per mouse for 30 days. The damages of DNA we...

Summary:The potential genotoxicity of genetically modified soybean (GMS) was studied on male mice of C57BI/6 line characterized by high spontaneous mutagenesis. GMS and it conventional analog (in the form of a meal) was included in the diet based on 3.0-3.2 g/day per mouse for 30 days. The damages of DNA were estimated by alkaline gel-electrophoresis in a suspension of isolated cells of different tissues. The immune modeling properties were studied for 45 days on mice of CBA and C57BI/6 lines according to 4 tests allowing estimating the state of humoral and cellular immunity. The allergenic properties were studied on rats for 29 days. Soybean was added to the diet in an amount of 3.3 g a day per rat. The allergenic potency was estimated by the severity of proceeding of systemic anaphylaxis reaction and the level of circulating sensibilizing antibodies under intra-abdominal sensitizing with egg albumin. None of the experiments as conducted has found differences in the values to be studied between the animals of the control and experimental groups. It is concluded about the absence of genotoxicological, immunological and allergological effect of GMS compared to its conventional analog
