Summary: | There is a number of phytopathogenic fungi and viruses quoted in literature as a disease causal agents on sugar beet. However, in the Republic of Serbia 29 fungicide products (18 active ingredients) are registered and their use is intended only against causal agent of sugar beet leaf spot (Cercospora beticola), and for seed treatment there are three products registered. Among the above mentioned number of active ingredients, 11 are inhibitors of sterol biosynthesis in membranes (SBI Sterol Biosynthesis Inhibitors), referring to their same mode of action against the fungus. It should be underlined that in every product with two active ingredients, one is from SBI group. Application of products with the same mode of action increases the selection pressure, which results in the emergence of races with a reduced susceptibility, or resistant strains of the parasite mentioned. In the light of this fact, it can be concluded that introduction of the strategy in fungicide application in control of C. beticola is a necessity. However, there are active ingredients with different mode of action from SBI in Serbia. In the paper, products registered in the Republic of Serbia are classified according to FRAC mode of action, indicating the degree of risk of resistance emergence and suggesting the proper choice of products in case of a need for subsequent applications during the growing season. |
