Summary:With increasing range of food manufacturing the food production chain becomes more complex. Every link in the chain must be as strong as other links if the health of consumers is to be adequately protected. An effective food safety policy must recognize the inter-linked nature of food production. It requires assessment and monitoring of the risks to consumer's health regarding raw materials, farming practices and food processing activities. An effective regulatory action it required to cope with risks; by establishing operational control systems to monitor and enforce the application of regulations. New food safety framework for improving current policy is being created in Serbia. It is based on comprehensive and integrated approach to all aspects of food production, marketing, control and consumption. The implementation of measures in Food Act will enable organized food safety in more coordinated and integrated manner to achieve the highest possible level of health protection.
