The effect of linuron on microorganism abundance in different soil types

The effect of linuron on soil microorganisms was examined. A trial was set up in the laboratory on two soil types: vertisol and alluvium. Linuron was applied in concentrations of 0.75 and 1.5 kg/ha. Total microorganisms and the abundance of fungi, actinomycetes, amino-heterotrophs and Azotobacter we...

Summary:The effect of linuron on soil microorganisms was examined. A trial was set up in the laboratory on two soil types: vertisol and alluvium. Linuron was applied in concentrations of 0.75 and 1.5 kg/ha. Total microorganisms and the abundance of fungi, actinomycetes, amino-heterotrophs and Azotobacter were investigated. Sampling for microbiological analysis was done 1, 3, 7, 14, 30 and 60 days after linurone application. The results show that the effect of linuron on soil microorganisms depended on the duration of activity, type microorganisms and type of soil. Over the initial 24 h after linuron application, no change was observed in the abundance of any microorganism group. Linuron demonstrated its activity from the third day onward by causing inhibition of total microorganisms, amino-heterotrophs and Azotobacter, while the effect was stimulating for actinomycetes and fungi.
