Summary:Starting with 1973, the first nuclei of Awassi and East-Friesian rams have been imported to be crossed with sheep from the local breeds (Merino type Spanca). The morpho-productive and reproduction indexes with the sheep line specialized for milk yield are superior to those with the local breed. Valuable traits of these breeds have been pursued on a synthetic phenotype in view of creating a new milk sheep line. The progressive directional selection for milk yield has been performed. The cutward show of this type has the aspect of milk sheep with a harmonious body conformation characteristic for the breathing type.
