Summary:The paper presents the synthesis of the experimental results obtained during the 1985-1986 period, in the expression of the heterosis effect for dry matter, lycopene and other biochemical indices in some hybrids of summer-autumn tomatoes obtained by breeding at the Research Institute for Vegetable and Flower Growing Vidra. The authors have studied, from the point of view of a complex of biochemical characters with polygenic determination, a number of 25 genitors (cultivars, Romanian and foreign lines) and their hybrid combinations in F1. They have noticed a biochemical heterosis for dry matter and lycopene, associated with other quality indices, such as: average fruit weight, total sugar, titratable acidity, vitamine C. The authors have remarked certain genitors valuable for the obtention of F1 hybrids with heterosis for the desired indices. They have also noticed the influence of the mother parent used in hybridization. The data obtained have confirmed the difficulty of combining those factors that control a high dry matter content and a high acidity content
