Summary:This publication contains the synthesis of the final results of Phase II of the International Musa Testing Programme (IMTP). This banana breeding programme developed from a small programme operating mainly in Latin America in the first phase, to a truly global effort in Phase II. The evaluation protocols used in IMTP were developed and agreed upon by groups of specialists, thus the programme played an important role in bringing together Musa researchers at the global level. The major players in IMTP are the participating National Programmes. In Phase II all the costs of the evaluation sites were borne by the hosting institutes and this work is a result of the hard work and dedication of national scientists.
