Summary:A study was conduced to test the combined effect of polyacrylamide and drop energy of sprinkler irrigation water on twelve soil units of Alentejo. Polyacrylamide applied with the first irrigation at a concentration of 1 kg/ha effectively increased infiltration and reduced runoff and erosion on all soils, except on Px and Ps soil units. Slope increased runoff and erosion on all soils, with PAM application softening the percent increase observed on the check treatments. Conservative tillage practices are recommended with PAM use, especially for the soils Px, Ps and A, of very low or null responses to PAM, but well represented in terms of total available area
