Summary:Material of the study came from a fur animal farm in Jeziory Wielkie near Poznan (Poland). Female foxes of different colour varieties maintained in 1978-97 from which 4155 progenies with pastel colour were obtained, were observed. Studies upon on the heritability of hair colour of pastel fox were performed on based on the analysis of colour segregation in progenies of different coloured parents. Results of investigations and previous reports of other authors proved that pastel colour depended on a recessive gene pair. Pastel hair was genetically conditioned by the homozygotic system of 2 recessive genes. Heterozygotes (carriers of that gene) had the silver fox phenotype and did not differ from the dominating homozygotes. It is most probably another colour variety as compared to burgund, colicot and trintrud ones
