Studies on the effect of standard and wide tyres of a tractor on the density and air-water properties of light soil

Field studies were carried out on sandy loamy soil, ploughed in previous autumn, to determine the effect of standard (7.5-20 and 18.4/15-34) and wide (10-15 and 23.1-26) tyres of farm tractor on selected soil parameters in wheel tracks and near them. Soil volumetric density, total porosity, water ca...

Summary:Field studies were carried out on sandy loamy soil, ploughed in previous autumn, to determine the effect of standard (7.5-20 and 18.4/15-34) and wide (10-15 and 23.1-26) tyres of farm tractor on selected soil parameters in wheel tracks and near them. Soil volumetric density, total porosity, water capacity, content of water available for plants, field air capacity and air/water capacity ratio were measured. The use of wide tyres caused significantly smaller depth of wheel tracks and ensured better soil conditions than the standard tyres
