Relationship between udder and body measurements, milk traits and longevity of Red-and-White cows

Data of 534 Red-and-White cows from 7 herds were analysed. Udder measurements of cows were significantly positively correlated (with a few exceptions) with the body weight and measurements, milk and fat yield in particular lactation and life milk and fat yields (from r=0.060 to r=0.544). Udder measu...

Summary:Data of 534 Red-and-White cows from 7 herds were analysed. Udder measurements of cows were significantly positively correlated (with a few exceptions) with the body weight and measurements, milk and fat yield in particular lactation and life milk and fat yields (from r=0.060 to r=0.544). Udder measurements were mostly positively (except the depth) correlated with longevity and number of milking days during cow's life. This indicated that the selection for increased udder size can also lead to improvement of body conformation and milk productivity of cows.
