Summary:Manggarai regency is one of the important centers of sweetpotato production and genetic diversity in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. The wide diversity of sweetpotato germplasm which are grown in the low, medium, and high altitudes were expected. The objective of this study is to collect sweetpotato cultivars and study local knowledge concerning these. An interdisciplinary approach using Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) and participatory methods was used to gather data. Sixty nine cultivars conserved both in situ in Ruteng and ex-situ in Bogor were obtained from 11 villages in 6 districts in Manggarai. The change in food crop patterns, low yield, and long maturity of sweetpotato cultivars has contributed to the loss of some sweetpotato cultivars. The women play a major role in household activities, while in the field they are involved in planting, weeding, and harvesting. Land preparation is almost done exclusively by men
