Progress of screening for resistance to sweet potato weevil by PRCRTC [Baybay, Leyte, Philippines]

A total of 25,794 genotypes had been evaluated in the field for resistance to weevil. Of these 60 genotypes were rated moderately resistant and 1 as resistant in the field screening. Under force feeding experiments however all exhibited susceptible reactions. Stem diameter, presence of latex, peride...

Summary:A total of 25,794 genotypes had been evaluated in the field for resistance to weevil. Of these 60 genotypes were rated moderately resistant and 1 as resistant in the field screening. Under force feeding experiments however all exhibited susceptible reactions. Stem diameter, presence of latex, periderm thickness and length of tuber neck showed no relations with resistance to sweet potato weevil. From the selected genotypes, one became a recommended variety. Interspecific hybrids and protocol for embryo rescue of I. batatas x I. trifida crosses had been developed by Quimio, C. Activities for 1993-1995 include: (1) field and laboratory screening of I. batatas x I. trifida interspecific crosses and I. batatas F1's materials from the polycross nurseries, (2) obtain more data on the association of resistance to morphological characters
