Summary:The information gathered could serve as basis for targeting technology interventions and planning. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) were used to handle, organize, and store this municipal rice database. The following sets of information were gathered from 65% of the mailed survey forms: (a) physical area; i.e., total area, total area irrigated rice farming by ecosystem; (b) total number of rice farm households, and rice farmers; (c) total number of active accredited seedgrowers; (d) average farm landholding; (e) top five varieties planted in the area based on the 2001 calendar year; (f) seeding rate and most common sources of seeds; (g) area planted and methods of crop establishment; (h) average yields/ha/season; (i) problems in rice production; and (j) programs and projects related to rice farming being implemented by the local government
