Summary:Gracilaria beds at the study sites in Manila Bay and in Bolinao, Pangasinan [Philippines] were mapped and their biomass and population dynamics assessed. Results were analyzed in relation to prevailing temperature, salinity, and water movement regimes, and placed within an indicative socio-economic perspective. Gathering of socio-economic information on mangrove rehabilitation and Caulerpa harvesting in Bolinao were conducted through personal interview of coastal inhabitants who were or are directly involved in the activities. The population dynamics of Gracilaria species at Bacoor, Cavite (Manila Bay Area) and Longbeach, Cape Bolinao were investigated and the socio-economic profile related to Gracilaria harvesting at Pamarawan, Bulacan [Philippines] was described
