Summary:Nutritional status and food consumption was investigated in 11 years old immigrant children from Surinam (South America) in Amsterdam. The same children were seen 3 years earlier, 46-79% of them participated in this second survey. Compared with Dutch counterparts many more Surinam children had reached puberty. The increases in height and weight in three years of the immigrant children were equal or even more than in Dutch children. The Surinam children of Asian ancestry (Hindustani) were smaller in height, lighter in weight, less muscular, but fatter, compared with Surinam children of African ancestry (Creoles) and Dutch children. The largest arm muscle circumference was found in Creoles. Food consumption patterns were more or less the same as three years earlier.
