Summary:In 1996-2001 bacteriological investigations of clinical samples of pets (dogs and cats) were carried out in Lithuania. Resistance of isolated bacteria to antimicrobials was determined, 209 bacterial strains were isolated. 46.9% of them belonged to genera Staphylococcus, 18.7% - to genera Streptococcus, 12.9% - to family Enterobacteriaceae. 8.6% were gram positive anaerobes, 4.3% - Pseudomonas spp. and 8.6% - other bacteria. Resistance to antimicrobials was determined in vitro by method of diffusion in agar gel, according to Kirby-Bauer.
