Summary:This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of presprout soil drenching of paclobutrazol (PB) on vegetative growth, fruit yield, and fruit quality in 3-year old 'Kurakata-Wase' peach (Prunus persica). Shoot growth and trunk circumference were significantly retarded by PB, and the higher rates retarded more than lower rates of PB. The retardation of tree growth by PB was continued during 3 years. PB decreased the length of internode, weight of branch pruned, leaf size, leaf length, and leaf shape index (L/W), however increased chlorophyll contents in leaves. Yield was not affected in the year of application, but PB increased in the subsequent 2 years. Size, soluble solids, acidity, and pedicel length of fruits were not affected by PB.
