Summary: | Aphanomyces raphani Kendrick was isolated from diseased chinese cabbage plants occurring severely in the alpine area during summer. The severely diseased or old plant samples and soil were not more successful source for isolation of the pathogen than those of freshly wilting plant. The diseased Chinese cabbage plants produced dry and brittle root rot symptoms. The typical symptom of main root decay was reproduced when inoculated to seedlings artificially. Dark-blue discoloration was also observed on the skin as well as the inner side of the radish root after inoculation with the isolate. Cultural characteristics of the isolate on radish agar also suggested that A. raphani was the causal organism of the brittle root rot. In media culture, incorporated with fungicides Ridomil did not inh0923ibit the growth of that fungus completely, while Etridiazole, and Monceren-Captan did inhibi |
