Summary:Information on distribution, uses and chromosome numbers are provided for all species, sub-species and cultivar groups in the genus Solanum L. (Solanaceae) that occur in Uganda. The distribution is influenced by a number of factors, including rainfall, altitude and type of vegetation, the weedy nature of some species and whether the species are crops or ornamentals. In this paper, information on the distribution of all the Solanums in Uganda, their uses and chromosome numbers, is provided. Such data will be helpful in research on chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, etc of Solanum species and aid in future collection of germplasm to be used in genetic resources programmes for improvement of cultivated species.
