Summary:A general visual inspection to estimate cocoon color tone has a problem that the estimation is easily influenced by bias of the inspector due to interior, lighting etc. In order to support the method, we introduced UV-glance method that samples are observed under UV 365 nm wavelength light. We could easily classify cocoons to three types irradiating fluorescence of each white-blue, yellow-green and bright yellow under the UV light. By selection and breeding of 'BNg' and 'BCg' races using both methods, we succeeded to obtain green color cocoons possessing uniform tone under both visual and the UV lights in short term. They also had comparable deep color with a standard green color race 'Daizo'. Performance using UV-glance method is useful for selection to breed green color cocoons.
