Summary:Sampling of the following cultivated and wild plant species showing begomovirus-like symptoms and growing in different area in Saudi Arabia were collected : Abelmoshus esculentus L., Capsicum annuum L., Chenopodium album L., Citrullus lanatus(Thunb.) Matsum and Nakai, Cucumis sativusL., Cucurbita pepo L., Dodonea viscosa, L., Medicago sativa L., Sonchus oleraceus L., Vigna unguiculata(L.) Walp. Subsp., and Vinca rosea L. ELISA test for the collected samples using monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) of African cassava mosaic virus (ACMV) indicated definitive occurrence of begomoviruses in Abelmoshus esculentus L., and Cucurbita pepo L., possible occurrence of the virus(es) in Cucumis sativusL., and Medicago sativa L., and negative tests for the rest of the tested plant species. Immunosorbent electronmicroscopy of partially purified extract of squash samples showed typical geminate particles of SqLCV. This is the first report for the detection of SqLCV in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
