Summary:The goat is considered as the first animal domesticated by man. It was reared and selected according to specific production requirements (meat, milk, skin or high-quality fibers such as mohair or cashmere). Although diversified from a behavioural point of view, the various breeds are quite similar. Goats are social animals and the basic unit of a group is usually the she-goat with her kids. Very strict rules and a strong hierarchy govern the group. However, these animals easily adapt themselves to new situations. A main aspect of their character is their insatiable curiosity. They may get accustomed to the presence of man and become very friendly. Such characteristics undoubtedly evidence a certain intelligence [La capra e' considerata come il primo animale addomesticato dall'uomo.
