Summary:The study has been carried out on 11 selections and 4 peach cultivars, 7 nectarine cultivars, 9 apricot selections and 4 plum selections. The reproductive apparatus has been evaluated by observations on pistil morphology, pollen viability and germinability assays and self-fertility and intervarietal crosspollination trials. Most selections and cultivars showed a normal ovary development and a good capacity for pollen function. Further work is necessary to explain some aspects such as the behaviour of peach selections I.F. 6910242 and I.F. 7410011, that could be either partially male-sterile or parthenocarpic, and the reason for no pollen grain tube growth in plum selections. The apricot selections showed the highest percentages of aborted ovaries compared to the other species.
