Summary: | In view of expansion of bluefin tuna culture, some preliminary data on morphology, relative growth of body components and commercial yields are presented. On the whole, 82 wild subjects (b.w. 1.247 to 80 kg) have been measured for body weight and fork length to study their relationship, that was W = 0.044FL sup (2.792) [R sup (2) = 0.997]. A sub-sample of 38 juveniles (b.w. 30 kg) was submitted to linear measurements (length, height, thickness) to determine growth models of somatic regions, while, by dissecting 25 of these, regression of body components on net body weight was studied. Among yields, fillet percentage was high (60%) - with an increasing trend particularly for belly portion - and that of DWT (dressed with tail) increased up to about 75%.
