Summary: | Experimental trials have been carried out over three years in order to evaluate the mating disruption technique against Cydia pomonella L., in a walnut-growing area of Rovigo district (North-East of Italy). Codling moths male populations were monitored within two blocks nearby. A 4.1 ha block was treated with 1750 dispensers (427/ha), using Isagro dispensers Ecopom in the 1996 and Ecopom Combi in the 1997 and 1998, while the second block was splitted into two plots, insecticide treated and untreated. Pheromone treatment was very effective in reducing injury (85.3% in 1996, 88.2% in 1997, 74.3% in 1998). Codling moths damage in pheromone treated block was comparable with insecticide block (4-5 treatments/year) in all three years. Mating disruption also operated a control on the pyralid Euzophera bigella, which sometimes is more dangerous of codling moth itself
