Summary:The durum wheat varieties currently grown in Sicily were registered over ten years ago. For barley and oat, cultivations are usually sown poorly productive landraces or cultivars selected in Northern environments, not suitable to the island. In 40 Sicilian environments, typical for winter cereal crops, trials were carried out in order to evaluate the adaptability of durum wheat, barley and oat varieties to the Mediterranean conditions. Results showed high yield capacity and yield stability of the new durum wheat genotypes Bronte, Ciccio and Platani, which performed better than the older cultivars actually widespread in Sicily. The barley and the oat trials showed high adaptability of these species to stressing environments.
