Summary: | In two different environments of Eastern Sicily, located at different altitude (S. Domenica Vittoria (ME)), 1220 m. a.s.l. and Primosole (CT), 10 m a.s.l., a two year research (1989-91) was carried out with the aim at studying the ecophysiology od Dactylis glomerata L. and Festuca arundinacea Schreb. in semi-arid conditions. In both the environments and for the two species, moreover, three different sowing densities (20, 40 and 60 kg ha*[-1] of seeds) were studied. The growing cycle in both species was affected by the climatic conditions of the different environments. In the high -hilly environment of Nebrodi, the LAI and epigeic dry matter evolution showed two stasis periods: the first in winter, between December and March and the second in Summer, between June and the end of October. In the plain environment were ascertained LAI values and epigeal DM production higher than the high-illy one. In both environments high dry matter yields were obtained. A positive relation between leaf area duration (LAD) and global biomass production was observed; moreover, LAD resulted significantly correlated to mean air temperature throughout growing season |
