Supplemental study on Fars province grapevine collection using leaf morphological charactristics

A grape collction including 162 cultivars exist in agricultural research center of Fars province. This collection is an important grape gen pool and its protecting is important to grape breedig and agrotechnical programs. Unfortunately the most of these cultivars from a genetic viewpoint are similar but have different names. Therefor in order to access to a trusty collection with genuine cultivars and to segregate similar cultivars to using in grape breeding and agrotechnical programs, this study in grape collection of Agricultural Research Center of Fars Province was conducted within a period of 1 year. In this study morphological leaf characters was used as major case to identify grape cultivars. For this purpose, in June of 2002, from each cultivar 10 fully mature leaves, non-damaged were sampled and dried. Then 23 characters that little affected by environmental changes were examined. To improve identification rate, Five characters of berry and seed also were evaluated. According to dendrograme of similarity cultivars,18 cvs. of color and 24 cvs. of white grape cultivars at least 85% were similar. Also berry color of some cultivars was not according to their names.
