Study on determining of optimum plant density for different barley lines & cultivars under salinity stress

This study was conducted during 2001 - 2003 in Roodasht Agricultural Research station Esfahan Province.Effects of four seeding rates (350,450,550 and 650 seeds per m! ) were evaluated on 5 barley genotypes(Afzal ,73-M4-30, I-BC-80134, I-BC-80320 and I-BC-80328) using a randomized complete block desi...

Summary:This study was conducted during 2001 - 2003 in Roodasht Agricultural Research station Esfahan Province.Effects of four seeding rates (350,450,550 and 650 seeds per m! ) were evaluated on 5 barley genotypes(Afzal ,73-M4-30, I-BC-80134, I-BC-80320 and I-BC-80328) using a randomized complete block design with factorial distribution. Irrigation water had and EC epual to 12ds/m. Some traits such as grain yield, No.of spikes per m2 , thousand kernel weight , plant height , days to heading and days to physiological maturity were measured or noted down. Combined analysis of variance showed that there was significant difference between genotypes in all studied traits (PSO.OI) , but seeding rate only had significant effect on No. of spikes per m2 . Among the studied genotypes, line 73-M4-30 produced the highest grain yield by an average of 5448 kg/ha and there was no significant difference between other genotypes. Although seeding rate didn't have any significant effect on grain yield , but in means comparison , 3 seeding rates ( 450 , 550 and 650 seeds per m2 ) were grouped in a different group than 350 seeds per m2 _ Therefore , the optimum seeding rate in this experiment was 450 seeds per m! . Based on 2- years results, increasing in seeding rate from 350 to 450 seeds per m! resulted in increase in No. of spikes per m2 from 370 to 409 , but more increase in seeding rate didn't cause increase in this trait.
