Summary:Formation and accumulation of sand dunes is a one of the features in dry and extreme dry rigions. About 6 percent of earth surface and 20 percent of dry lands in the world were covered by these sediments. The necessity of saving time and the worth of operation fixing of sand dunes refer to identifying and separating active parts from non-active parts in desert areas. This survey is trying to determine through the sand dunes forms and other characteristics, active and passive sand dunes be separated from each other. Besides, with reviewing of the physical and chemical characteristics, biological sand fixation ability and type economic gains advantage of them can be recognized. To this end the study and interpretation of satellite imagery by using RS and GIS techniques and aerial photo interpretation scale 1/40000 device to help screenscope, during field operations and visiting sand dunes systems of Khorasan province, the morphological characteristics of sand dunes were registred while sampling location by GPS coordinates and maps the relevant registration form Point map was drawn. The present studies showed collection of sand dunes in Khorasan province with an area equivalent 895127.89 ha faces establized and non fixed more than 16 single and combination forms mainly in central and southern provinces are scattered. Frequency distribution of forms that identified among the forms of combination, ergs and pyramid sand and among the forms of dense single Barkhan have the most common. Also among the forms of combination, establized forms of Barkhan and between individual forms, Nebka froms have the lowest frequency while stabilized sand dunes containsd about 10 percent of total forms of sand dunes.
