Summary:";":: With the aim of releasing tolerant varieties to terminal drought 16 lines and varieties of bread wheat along with 4 check cultivars (Pishtaz, Cross Alborz .Azar-Z and Sardari) were planted within a RCBD with 3 replications under late season water stress conditions in 4 locations; Karaj, Kermanshah, Esfahan and Neishabour during two crop seasons of 2003-1005. This trial was irrigated in autumn and based on spring rainfalls one or two 'irrigations were done after cutting of rainfall so that the experiment was exposed to water stress in heading stage onward. The necessary assessments like response to winter cold, number of days to heading and maturity were evaluated and recorded. After harvesting thousand kernels weight and grain yield per plot were recorded. Simple and combined ANOV A was done for grain yield and means were compared using Duncan method (D1vfRT). Stability analysis was done using Rank and AMMI methods. Combined ANOVA showed a significant effect for location x year, genotypes and Location x year x genotype. Comparison of means showed that WS-82¬12 with 6.285 tlha was the superior genotype and ws-82-4 with 4.239 tlha was the poorest entry. Variety Pishtaz as irrigated check cultivar produced 5.703 tlha. Cross Alborz the variety which has been suggested for supplementary irrigation showed a grain yield of 5.165 t/ha. Variety Azar-2 asa drought tolerant cultivar had a grain yield of 4.553 t/ha, In a overall view many genotypes out of 16 showed grain yield more than investigated checks out of which entries 12, 13, 7, 16, 14,8,6,9, 10 and 18 had a grain yield more than 6 tlha. Thousand kernel weight was equal or more than 35 gr for entries 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 18 under water stress. Considering all evaluations including yield stability, disease resistance, resistance to grain shattering and bread making quality WS-82-9 was superior entry for multiplication and introduce for late season drought conditions in temperate zone.
