Summary: | An artificial diet for rearing Chrysoperla carnea larvae composed of easily acquired ingredients (5 g honey, 5 g sugar, 5 g yeast, 6 g yeast enzymatic hydrolysate, 1 g casein enzymatic hydrolysate, 10 g egg yolk and 68 ml distilled water) in two forms, paraffin capsules and Alginata-Chitosan capsules was evaluated. Three successive generations of C. carnea larvae were reared on paraffin capsules, the larval development took 12.5 d compared with 8.1 d by feeding on Sitotroga cerealella eggs and the pupal weight was 8.3 mg compared with 8.9 mg respectively. Few 1st- instar and 2nd- instar larvae fed on Alginate-Chitosan encapsulate diet. But 80% of 3rd _ instar larvae completed the development to the adult stage. |
