Evaluation of Reaction to Stripe Rust and Septoria Diseases in Spring Bread Wheat lines for Central and West Asia and North Africa (CWANA) Program

Stripe rust, leaf rust and fusarium head scab are the most important diseases in most wheat growing regions, particularly in the north of Iran. In 2003- 2004 cropping season, 200 line of SBW2004-5 and 24 of SPII 2004-5 nurseries were tested for stripe rust, leaf rust and fusarium with a susceptible...

Summary:Stripe rust, leaf rust and fusarium head scab are the most important diseases in most wheat growing regions, particularly in the north of Iran. In 2003- 2004 cropping season, 200 line of SBW2004-5 and 24 of SPII 2004-5 nurseries were tested for stripe rust, leaf rust and fusarium with a susceptible cultivar Bolani. In the field lines were planted in two rows of one-meter length with 30cm distance and were artificially inoculated with three diseses. The susceptible wheat cultivar (Bolani) was planted as spreader around the field and between the rows. Field assessments were based on disease severity according to the modified Cobb scale and disease reaction for leaf and stripe rust. For Fusarium percent of infeced plant was recorded. Among 200 lines of SBW2004-5 nursery 20 lines were resistant to three diseases. In SPII 2004-5 nursery 5 lines showed acceptable level of resistant to three diseses included stripe rust, leaf rust and fusarium, which are bolded in table 2. Bolani as susceptible cultiver was compelitly susceptible in the field. In addation 25 lines were selected for further study.
