Summary:An experiment was conducted to evaluate the sterility of ten varieties and lines crossed with CMS Tondano A and IR46830 A. Twenty F1 lines were planted in the WS 1987/88, one seedling/hill, with the plant spacing of 25 cm X 25 cm. At the flowering stage, several flowers were taken from the main panicle and then pollen was observed under the microscope to evaluate the sterility. Unfilled grain sterility was counted after harvest. Every CMS has a fixed maintainer and a restorer line. Line S487b-75 was identified as a maintainer for Tondano A, but a restorer for IR468306 A.
