Summary:A broad spectrum anthelmintic was tested in the coastal area of Cirebon (West Java, Indonesia). A total of a hundred village sheep naturally infected with gastro-intestinal nematodes were divided into two groups. The treated group was given albendazole at a dose rate of 3.8 mg/kg body weight every month and the other group remained untreated. The animals were weighed and faeces were collected every month for a period of six months. Helminths egg counts were done on each sample and faeces were cultured for larval identification. Following treatment the mean nematode egg count of the treated group was higher than the untreated group. Results showed that regular treatment with broad spectrum anthelmintic had a good effect in controlling worm infections and in improving weight gain in these grazing sheep.
