Summary:To obtain good yield of pepper, farmers frequently apply various treatments to their crops, including pruning of the pepper vines and or their living post. Studies on the aspects of the pruning are however very limited. Therefore a field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of pruning of pepper vines and their living post on the pepper yield. The experiment was carried out at Sukamulya Research Station, Sukabumi. A split plot design with three replicates was used. The main plot was the pruning of living post, and the sub plot was the pruning of pepper vines. Plot size was 20 plants per plot with spacing of 2.5 m x 2.5 m. Results showed that there was significant interaction between the pruning of living post and pepper vines. The pruning of living post may be carried out either 3 times (October, January and April) or twice (October and January) a year. However, if the pruning of the living post is carried out 3 times per year, the vine would be pruned once a year or not at all. On the other hand, if the pruning of living post is carried out twice a year, the pepper vines would be pruned 6 times a year Untuk memperoleh hasil lada yang sebaik mungkin, petani berusaha memelihara tanaman ladanya dengan berbagai cara, termasuk melakukan pemangkasan tajar kalau menggunakan tajar hidup sebagai tiang panjatnya dan atau memangkas tanaman ladanya itu sendiri. Sampai sejauh ini, informasi atau hasil-hasil penelitian mengenai manfaat pemangkasan tajar ataupun tanaman ladanya boleh dikatakan masih terbatas. Oleh sebab itu, suatu penelitian lapangan dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemangkasan tajar dan tanaman ladanya terhadap hasil. Penelitian dilakukan di IP Sukamulya Sukabumi pada tahun 1986, 1987 dan 1988, dengan menggunakan rancangan petak terbagi yang diulang tiga kali. Pemangkasan tajar ditempatkan pada petak utama dan pemangkasan tanaman lada pada anak petak. Ukuran petak adalah 20 tanaman dengan jarak tanam 2.5 m x 2.5 m. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya pengaruh interaksi yang nyata antara pemangkasan tajar dan tanaman ladanya. Pemangkasan tajar dapat dilakukan 3 kali setahun (Oktober, Januari, dan April) atau 2 kali setahun (Oktober dan Januari). Apabila tajarnya dipangkas secara intensif (3 kali setahun) maka pemangkasan ladanya cukup sekali setahun atau tidak perlu dipangkas sama sekali. Sebaliknya, bila pemangkasan tajarnya dilakukan 2 kali setahun maka tanaman ladanya harus lebih sering dipangkas (6 kali setahun)
