Summary:The experiment was carried out from July 1998 to January 1999 in the green house of Natar Assessment Station for Agriculture Technology. A completely randomized block design arranged factorially with two replications was used to find out the proper kind of clone and growth media to increase growth of vanilla cuttings in the nursery. Four vanilla clones tested were Malang, Cilawu, Gisting and Ungaran Daun Tipis. The clone were planted on the growth media (M1 = soil, M2 = casting, M3 = soil + castng, M4 = soil + casting + stable manure + sand, and M5 = soil + stable manure + sand). The results showed that no interaction effect of vanilla clones and growth media on the percentage of variable cuttings and number of leaves. Interaction effects were shown by the length of shoot. The best growth of vanilla cuttings of clone Malang was that consisted of soil + casting + stable manure + sand
