Summary:The objective of research was to reveal: 1. some economic and social factors influencing fishermen's income. 2. income difference between those of fishermen using and without boat engine. The research object were fishermen in Mawasangka and Lakudo District of Buton Regency. The samples were taken from three villages, namely Terapung, Wakabangura and Nepa-Nepa Villages which were chosen employing stratified random sampling and allocated proportionally into engined boat and unengined boat. The reseach result revealed that economic and social factors simultaneously affected fishermen income. The social and economic factors such as capital, production cost, and the difference in boat engine application had a highly significant influence on fishermen's income at 99 percent of confidence level, whereas the effective fishing daytime, the number of the family member and fishing experience had a significant effect on fishermen's income at 95 percent of confidence level. Meanwhile, education factor had no significant influence on fishermen's income. The difference test suggested that the average income of the fishermen who had boat engine were significantly higher than those who had no boat engine
