Summary: | In a three-year experimental programme including field trials and analyses of nutrient content and in situ digestion, studies were made on how the sowing of maize and sorghum could be rational, and how the products could be economically used. Under Hungarian conditions, non-paniculate sorghum proved more suitable for this purpose than the paniculate type, since its yield is not lower, its feed value is, if anything, slightly better, and it can be harvested over a considerably longer period. Sorghum is best harvested in the 25-30 % dry matter range, since at higher values the feed value of the whole plant deteriorates, to a much greater extent for paniculate sorghum than for the non-paniculate type |
