Effect of different fish stocks on water quality of shallow hypertrophic water quality reservoirs

In May 1991 and 1992 a mass fishkill occurred in the Cassette of the Kis-Balaton Water Protection System. During this two years approximately 500 kg/ha fish (mainly Carassius auratus gibelio) was removed and the estimated fish biomass was than 50 kg/ha. At the same time other part of the reservoir w...

Summary:In May 1991 and 1992 a mass fishkill occurred in the Cassette of the Kis-Balaton Water Protection System. During this two years approximately 500 kg/ha fish (mainly Carassius auratus gibelio) was removed and the estimated fish biomass was than 50 kg/ha. At the same time other part of the reservoir was not influenced by fish kill. The estimated fish biomass was 150 kg/ha and the prusian carp (Carassius auratus gibelio) was the dominant species. Near the Kis-Balaton the Marcali reservoir (area 4 km2, mean depth 1.8 m) was stocked with 600 kg/ha fish in 1992. About 70% of population was silvercarp carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix).
