Summary:Thirty female goats, 15 out of which pregnant, 2-4 years of age, free of any Fasciola hepatica and Dicrocoelium dendriticum infection, and apparently healthy, were experimentally infected with a gelatinous capsule each, containing 300 F. hepatica metacercariae, and then divided into 5 groups of 6 animals. The animals of groups A, B and D were treated with a 5% triclabendazole drench on 3,7 and 11 weeks after infection correspondingly, at the dose rate of 0.2ml (1010 mg a.i.)/kg b.w. The goats of group G were treated on 7 weeks after infection with triclabendazole boli, at the same dose of 10mg a.i.(30 mg bolus)/kg b.w. The controlled animals of group C were treated on 11 weeks after infection with plain mink at the dose rate of 1 ml/kg b.w. All goats were slaughtered on the 15th week after infection. During liver autopsy, all Fasciola as well as any other worms recovered were collected and counted. The efficacy of the reduction of the worms in each treated group to that number of controlled animals. Thus, triclabendazole drench proved to be 73.7%, 98.9% and 100% effective correspondingly against 3,7, and 11 weeks old flukes, while triclabendazole boli proved to be 100% effective against 7 weeks old immature F. hepatica. No adverse signs were observed in any animal, and treatments did not affect pregnancy and delivery of pregnant goats.
