Summary:The effectiveness of three insecticides: Actellic (Pirimiphos-methyl), Cymbush (Cypermethrin) and Elecron (Dioxacarb), applied by the dipped-leaf technique, and the life history of Plutella xylostella were studied. Sex influences the development of the second and fourth instars, the female second instar larva developing faster than the male, and the reverse in the fourth instar stage. Incubation period of the eggs is 3.31 days and the pupa lasts for 3.61 days with total developmental period to adult being 16.33 days. 12 h and 24 h mortality assay indicates that third stage larvae are more susceptible to insecticides. Cymbush was the most effective. Toxicity is in the order Cymbush Actellic Elecron
