Summary:In a field study it was observed how the actinorrhizal species Myrica gale L. modifies the edaphic microflora of the nitrogen cycle. Samples of the soil underneath the canopy of the plant and outside it were taken at El Boedo, in the province of Lugo, and at the Valle de la Viuda, in the province of Ciudad Real, and the activity of the aerobic diazotrophic, proteolytic, ammonifying and denitrifying microorganisms analysed. It was observed that, underneath the canopy of M. gale, these groups had great activity, except for the nitric nitrifyers at the Valle de la Viuda. It was also verified that M. gale acidifies the soil where it grows
